Field demonstration visit to INVENIO

Visit to BreedingValue partner INVENIO on 13th February 2024

A visit of the INVENIO research facilities at Douville in Southwestern France was organized on Feb. 13th, 2024 as part of the BreedingValue Workshop on Genomic tools for berry pre-breeding material: from genome to new berry cultivars. A group of 26 American and European people came to the research and experimentation center on fruits and vegetables. The first part of the day focused on the presentation by Justine Perrotte (head of the plant material department) of the Invenio association, the work of the strawberry breeding team and the in vitro micropropagation laboratory. Sara Pinczon du Sel (head of the small fruit department) then spoke about the work on raspberries. A convivial lunch took place at a restaurant nearby facilitating the discussion and exchange. In the afternoon strawberry trials in soilless systems were presented in the glasshouse and under a plastic tunnel, in particular a study of the effect of thelight by Marie-Noële Demené (strawberry physiology expert). To finish the visit, the group saw the raspberry trials.
